Tootsie Roll is the world’s largest lollipop supplier – producing 20 million Tootsie Pops every day! The original “How Many Licks?” television commercial appeared in 1970, and since then Tootsie Roll has produced a number of famous and memorable TV ads. The well-known Tootsie Pop commercial and storyline has become part of American culture. The company needed to reinvigorate the brand to increase recognition and sales among a new generation of children.
BC Group had to consider history and brand recognition to play off the commercial’s popularity while bringing the design up-to-date. We recreated the original classic TV spot into a fully animated, modern version, which works as a 30-second and a 15-second spot, in English, Spanish, and Korean.
BC Group delivered creative strategy and design to reinvigorate the beloved television commercial, and our team of animators did comprehensive research and brainstorming to develop the storyboard and style that would best recreate the new and improved TV spot. By retaining the integrity and story of the original Tootsie Pop commercial but updating the inquisitive boy, Mr. Turtle, and Mr. Owl with vibrant 3-D animation, BC Group enhanced the commercial’s style and attitude to resonate with children in today’s marketplace.
